Proactive Health Assessment:
  • Check-Up: When is the last time you saw your naturopathic doctor or medical doctor? It is important to see your healthcare provider at least once a year — or optimally, every 4-6 months. Having a check-up is one of the ways that you can be proactive about your health and address concerns that are not overly bothersome, but may develop into more chronic or severe issues if left unaddressed. Read through the following “General Markers of Health” list and “Life Circumstances.” If you are struggling in any of the following areas it might be time to book a check-up with your ND!
    • General Markers Of Health
      • Stress: Is stress running higher than usual? Is it affecting your cognition, mood, sleep, or energy levels?
      • Temperature: Have you noticed that you are running cold or hot more often? Are you experiencing spontaneous sweating or hot flashes? Do you feel chronically cold/chilled?
      • Energy: Are you feeling more sluggish, drained, or burnt out?
      • Appetite or Weight Changes: Have you noticed that you are struggling with eating habits — either not hungry or hungry all the time? Have you recently noticed that you are struggling with maintaining a healthy weight?
      • Mood: Have you been experiencing feelings of anxiety, fear, or overwhelm? Are you struggling with low motivation, negative thoughts, or depression?
      • Menstrual Changes (Abnormal Periods – Women): Are you experiencing heavy or painful periods? Do you have PMS symptoms (breast tenderness, irritability, or bloating) around your period? Are you planning on getting pregnant and want to optimize/address fertility?
      • Altered Sex Drive: Women, are you experiencing low sex drive, vaginal dryness, or painful sex? Men, are you experiencing low sex drive or erectile concerns?
      • Sleep: Is your sleep disrupted? Are you having trouble falling asleep or staying asleep? Are you waking up feeling tired even though you slept a good amount?
      • New or Ongoing Pain: Are you struggling with ongoing aches or pains? Do you have joint, nerve, or muscle pains?
      • Skin Changes: Have you noticed more redness, acne, or skin irritations? Have you been experiencing new itching or rashes recently?
    • Life Circumstances Or Changes That May Warrant A Health Assessment
      • Increased work or relational stress
      • Feeling “off” after a recent cold or flu
      • Transitioning to menopause or andropause

  • Physical Exam: It is recommended to get a thorough physical exam at least once per year, or if there has been a change in your health status. Booking in for a detailed physical exam is a way for your doctor to check-in on your physical health and monitor your body systems and functions such as blood pressure, vision, hearing, nervous system, skin health, heart, and lung function.
  • Female Wellness Exam: Women may benefit from a thorough physical exam including the following when indicated: PAP exam, pelvic exam, and breast exam.
